A NOTE FROM OUR
Co-founder & CREATIVE DIRECTOR
We founded Twenty Eight Ink to create the book we wanted to see in the world, bypassing traditional gatekeepers and large publishing houses. Our singular vision, at the time, was to produce a large scale coffee book featuring Black fathers, one of the first of its kind. To bring this vision to life, Twenty Eight Ink was born, and our first book, Fathers, was published.
In a conversation with the late Maurice Berger for a New York Times piece, I shared my evolving understanding of the project: “Ultimately, I began to understand Fathers in a different way. It began to feel almost like an archival project – the archiving of our humanity. Because when future generations look back, if they look at our media, our newspapers, what will they know of us? Will they know that we, Black folks, Black fathers in this case, lived and loved?”
The Fathers project ultimately set the tone for our mission as a company: to tell stories that get to the core of the human experience, and to do so with precision, detail, and care, grounded by history and craftsmanship. We love what we do, and are so happy you are here.
Thank you for welcoming our books into your home.
Warm regards,
Robyn Price Pierre
